Hyeon Chung started the match aggressively by breaking Djokovic's serve to go up 2-0 in the first set.  Djokovic couldn't find his way into the match and was quickly down 4-0.  He proceeded to break Chung's serve at 4-1 to bring the score to 4-2 and then 4-3 after a hard fought game. Chung then held to up 5-3 however he couldn't serve out the set as Djokovic broke back to bring the match level at 5-5. The first set then proceeded to a tie break where Chung pulled away from Djokovic at 3-3 to win the first set 7-6 (7-4).

Chung raced out to a 3-0 lead in the 2nd set however, once again Djokovic dug deep to level the set at 4-4. Both players both proceeded to hold serve until Djokovic was broken serving at 5-6 to force a tiebreaker.  The third set continued the pattern of the match as Djokovic was again broken to quickly go 3-1. However once again, he fought back and leveled the set at 3-3. The set then proceeded to a tiebreaker where Chung battled to a 3-1 lead. Then the crucial point happened at 4-3 with Chung serving.  Djokovic hit a volley that should have been a winner deep to Chung 's forehand side however Chung scrambled and hit an unbelievable crosscourt winner to go up 5-3. Chung then proceeded to win when Djokovic sent a backhand wide at 6-3.

Chung will next face Tennys Sandgren in the quaterfinal where he would be the clear favorite to reach the semifinal.
